About

I began my higher education journey with a BSc in Zoology from the University of Exeter, I focused mainly on marine organisms being so close to the coast at the Cornwall Campus! I then continued to study in Cornwall, recently completing my MSc in Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology at Exeter. Supervised by Dr Xavier Harrison, my masters research project involved spending a month in Alftanes, Iceland, during the Light-bellied Brent Goose spring migratory staging period, recording and observing goose behaviour.

I am currently working as a voluntary Social Media Officer for A Focus On Nature. An organisation dedicated to helping young people kick-start their conservation careers. My key responsibilities currently being to enhance our careers hub and to recruit conservation professionals to take part in our career mentor scheme.

Additionally, I am working as a freelance Website Designer with the ‘Project C-Gull’ research group at the University of Exeter.

I am Anemone Em

…. but you can call me Em.

I have been a HUGE animal lover since birth. Connecting with nature has never been more important and I want to help bridge the gap between our digital and natural world.

My handle “Anemone Em” is dedicated to the boy, who lived at the end of my street that would call me “anemone” instead of Emily. Whilst as a six year-old I found this quite aggravating, it turned out to be pretty fitting! I love rock pooling and my undergraduate research project study system was the brilliant Snakelocks anemone (Anemonia Viridis).

(So Nick if you are reading this… Thanks!)

Throughout my four years in Cornwall, I have been involved in a number of student society roles including; Social Media Representative for ‘EcoSoc’, Treasurer for ‘Marinewatch’, photo editor and writer at ‘LifeMag’. Being most active in the production team for the student-led natural history series ‘Naturewatch’.

In addition to Naturewatch, during my time at Penryn Campus, I have been lucky enough to have collaborated with a number of Falmouth’s Marine and Natural History Photography students, helping out on their assessed film projects.

These film projects have been in collaboration with a number of NGOs including; Plastic Free Falmouth, the British Trust for Ornithology and the Cornwall Beaver Project.
